This orca and hot air balloon painting was inspired by a tragic story I came across last year. Lolita was a 57 year old killer whale who was captured from the wild and held in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium for over 50 years before passing away in August of 2023. This story deeply saddened me and I wanted to create a piece in her honor and represent her being released from captivity to a better place.
