A little about me…
Erin Hellmann is a watercolor artist originally from Baltimore whose work is deeply rooted in coastal living and the powerful relationship between the moon and the sea. After spending much of her early adulthood along the Delaware Beaches and in Costa Rica, she relocated to Atlantic Beach, Florida in 2024. The surrounding waterways, tidal rhythms, and marine ecosystems continue to shape her evolving creative practice.
Erin’s artistic journey began in childhood, when painting became a way to escape and create entire worlds of her own. That passion eventually led her to earn a degree in Art Education from Towson University and to teach art in classrooms both in Baltimore and abroad in Costa Rica.
It was while teaching that Erin truly fell in love with watercolor. Initially drawn to it for its practicality—it was the easiest medium to teach from a rolling cart and later the simplest paint to travel with—she soon discovered a deeper connection. Largely self-taught in watercolor, she embraced its fluid, unpredictable nature. The medium taught her patience, surrender, and trust in the creative process. Rather than controlling the paint, she learned to collaborate with it.
Today, Erin’s work explores ocean tides, lunar cycles, and the vibrant life beneath the surface. She often incorporates intricate mandala line work, reflecting the harmony and repetition found in nature. She carries watercolor’s organic movement into her mural work as well, translating its flowing energy onto a larger scale to create immersive, calming environments.
Through her art, Erin invites viewers to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the tranquility and magic of the natural world.
